Between Bodies
2022-2026Between Bodies is an ongoing interdisciplinary project that understands the body as a relational rather than self-contained condition. Beginning with self-portraiture and intimate encounters between two bodies, the project examines how bodies are constituted through touch, distance, gaze, space, objects, images, and traces.
Intimacy is approached not simply as closeness, but as a shifting field between presence and absence, looking and being looked at, holding and withdrawing, the physical body and its representation. Within this field, bodies may meet, separate, obscure one another, substitute for one another, or gradually transform into images.
I understand photography as a cut into continuous reality. A photograph isolates a temporary fragment from the duration and relationship from which it emerged. Within Between Bodies, that fragment can become a seam: a point of connection that brings separated bodies, times, spaces, and forms into relation without erasing the differences between them.
Photography remains the project’s central visual language and point of departure, while Between Bodies continues to expand through moving image, performance, photographic objects, artist books, sound, and installation. Across these forms, the project asks how intimacy can be produced, carried, transformed, and encountered beyond the moment in which two bodies physically meet.
